Spent the weekend taking my stock 02 DRZ400S under the knife with a new carb, air-box mod, manual cam chain tensioner, and a set of 17" supermoto wheels wrapped in pilot powers. Just got back from my shakedown ride, still a few things I’ve got to do, but so far I’m impressed.

If you don’t mine me asking, how much has this conversion from enduro/duo sport to Supermoto cost?

This is pretty cool! Any build pics or before/after?

Not at all, I found a pretty good deal on wheels at $600 in to that about $200 for tires, so $800 for the basic swap.
Now the carb, (which was a major upgrade) added about $500 but was well worth it in my opinion.

I have an old xt225 I need to finish restoring. I need to get an extra set of wheels to swap on it, I’ve always done onroad 95% of the time...

I always mean to take better pics, but once the oil starts getting on my hands my drive decreases quite a bit!
Here she was as I picked her up, dirt tires, cv carb, basically 100% stock
About half way through the swap last night
Above is the stock POS carb
Fancy carb with accelerator pump :)
Unfortunately don’t have pictures of the MCCT, PCV recirc delete I made.

Do it! It’s totally worth it. I can’t believe how well the dirt suspension deals with aggressive cornering on the road. It’s a little floaty, but I was keeping pace with the same guys I usually do on my sportbike no problem.

Awesome! I loved my old DR350, and I loved it twice as much when I got a supermoto wheelset for it. So much fun, all it needed was a bit more power, which you’ve got covered with the DRZ.

Oh man, I’ve wanted a DRZ for so long. Survived some literbikes when I was younger. Last one got stolen. Got married, had a kid. Ever since I walked away from bikes (or it walked away from me), the DRZ call is strong.

Would you say it’s easier/cheaper to get an SM in the first place or do the conversion?

I found a great deal on the S, so all in with two sets of wheels and the 39mm pumper carb I’m at around $3300. Supermotos are ridiculous overpriced in my area in my opinion

I was actually shopping for a DR350 when the DRZ just happened to fall into my lap. The power is great nut god I’m jealous of your 6th gear!

Yeah that’s where I’m at too, I’ve had literbikes and a few 600s, but at this point I have way more fun on my SV650 (and now this) than I ever on those.
Lol “survived” that’s a good way to put it!

I want urban motocross to be a new trendy thing. jumping curbs stairs garbage cans grinding etc.

I would totally watch/try my hand at that!

Yeah, the gearing was one of the strong points of the little DR, but it needed every last gear to be able to reach freeway speeds! A 6-speed DRZ would be kickass.
